The goal of the French Program is to enable students to function in a French milieu and develop an appreciation for the language and culture. Because students arrive with different levels of French, they are streamed into:
Français Langue Seconde Enrichi (enriched program) – all students in the Enrichi program will be taking some of their courses in Secondary 1 & 2 (Cycle One - Years One & Two) in French. These include Math, History, Geography, Music and Art. By the time they arrive in Secondary 5 (Cycle Two – Year Three), they may be able to write the Langue Maternelle examination.
Français Langue Seconde de Base (regular French program) - all other students will be placed in this program. Students in the Langue Seconde de Base program have the option to take some of the courses in French, e.g. History, Geography, Music and Art. If there are more candidates than spaces, preference will be given to students with the most years of French schooling and/or immersion. All other candidates will have all their courses in English, except for their French course.
Please Note: A student may move up to the Enrichi Program stream in subsequent years, but will need to demonstrate an improvement in his French proficiency.
