Wow! As I look back over my 28 years of association with Loyola High School (as student, coach, teacher and administrator) it is absolutely astounding to realize all that has changed.
It is particularly significant to recognize how many of these changes have occurred in the last few years: we have a whole new wing for the school, a new auditorium, nearly twenty new teachers, a completely different administrative team and we are beginning the implementation of the Quebec curriculum reforms. These changes are both exciting and energizing and we look forward to a world of possibilities.
In the midst of all this change though, I think it is equally significant to look back and realize how much of Loyola has remained constant. The values and ideals that come to us from our Catholic and Jesuit identity are still the foundation of the school. The commitment to forming well rounded young men who are open to growth, loving, committed to doing justice, religious and intellectually competent is still the hallmark of a Loyola education.
“Be not afraid!” These were the words with which John Paul II began his papacy. He called the faithful to boldly and confidently proclaim and live their faith. In a way, that is the message that I would like to impart to the Loyola community as we begin this new school year and we go forth boldly proclaiming our identity as a learning institution and a faith community. May we continually call upon the Holy Spirit, both individually and as a community so the we may be empowered to become what we are called to be.
I look forward to an exciting year full of growth.
God Bless
